President and CEO

Dan O’Connor, President and CEO of Paragon, co-founded the company in 1982 with a simple vision: to build a leading service provider that could meet the consulting needs of industry leaders. Today, Paragon is recognized as a leading provider of consulting services in the Health and Life Sciences industries to help our clients maximize their business potential.

Mr. O’Connor is involved in directing all aspects of the business with a keen interest in strategic positioning, leadership development and solutions offer development. Under his direct leadership, Paragon has consistently shown strong year-over-year growth for more than a decade.

Prior to Paragon, Mr. O’Connor was Vice President, Bankers Trust Co., where he headed up Treasury Systems Development. He began his career in information technology in 1968 at Celanese Corp., and held various technical and managerial positions in banking, insurance, telecommunications and professional consulting.

Mr. O’Connor holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Seton Hall University. He is on several boards: the ITS Division of the Information Technology Association of America; the Board of Advisors to The McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University; and the Council Advisory Board to Fairleigh Dickinson University Graduate Business School.

Ravi Shankar

Ravi Shankar heads the Health & Life Sciences consulting group at Paragon, where he is responsible for strategy, execution and performance. Mr. Shankar leads an organization of domain experts and global delivery specialists that apply process optimization, information management and information insight capabilities to transform Paragon’s clients’ businesses in order to achieve significant business benefits and reduce compliance risks. One of Mr. Shankar’s pursuits is to realize his vision to streamline the flow of information that powers the “next generation” Healthcare ecosystem.

Mr. Shankar joined Paragon in 2006, established an enterprise content management practice and subsequently headed the Life Sciences industry business unit. Mr. Shankar’s relentless focus on client satisfaction, high quality of delivery, practical strategy and innovative solutions has resulted in multiple annual awards for fastest growth and largest revenue in each of the businesses he has managed.

Prior to joining Paragon, Mr. Shankar’s career spanned more than a decade of consulting, architecting and implementing process automation and content management solutions in the areas of research and development, marketing, supply chain and commercial operations for global pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies. He has held executive positions leading consulting businesses, launching successful products to market and managing strategic client relationships.

Ravi Shankar is a frequent speaker at various industry conferences, user groups and CIO level sessions on industry trends and best practices. He holds a Masters in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University, PA and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India.

Michael Alicastro

As an officer of the company, Mr. Alicastro is responsible for operations of Paragon’s offices located throughout the United States. His principal responsibility is sales management and business development. Within recent years, he has focused on building account-centric teams to manage key client relationships and market Paragon Solutions’ offerings.

Mr. Alicastro serves on the corporate executive committee at Paragon that shapes the strategic direction of the company. Additionally, he is a member of the Board of Directors of Consult Paragon Computer Professionals, Ltd. located in Bangalore, India. Since joining Paragon as an account representative in 1984, Mr. Alicastro has held several marketing and managerial positions.

Prior to his appointment at Paragon, Mr. Alicastro began his career in information technology with Jeffrey Meryl Associates. He later accepted a position with Computer Horizons Corporation.

Mr. Alicastro holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Hofstra University. He is a member of several technical and industry organizations, and has been consulted by business organizations and print publications for his knowledge and insight on various business and information technology related issues.

Stephan Peterson is Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration for Paragon. In his role, he is responsible for managing all financial and accounting functions including cash management, financial reporting, general ledger, billing, accounts receivable/payable for all Paragon operations. Mr. Peterson is also responsible for overseeing the Human Resources department and Building Operations for Paragon’s offices.

Prior to being promoted to Vice President, Mr. Peterson held Assistant Controller, Controller and Director of Finance positions with Paragon. Before joining Paragon, Mr. Peterson held positions with Prudential, The CIT Group and public accounting firms.

Mr. Peterson earned a B.S. in Accounting from William Paterson University and an M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Phoenix. He is also a registered CPA in the State of NJ. Mr. Peterson is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants and the New Jersey Technology Council.

Kevin Lea is Vice President Strategic Accounts Management Team for Paragon, where he is responsible for business development and to ensure quality delivery for Paragon’s large global accounts. Mr. Lea leads a team of senior level engagement leaders responsible for key areas within the accounts. Mr. Lea joined Paragon in 2006 and with his experience in leading delivery and business development has built trusted client relationships, external partnerships and key revenue growth for Paragon while receiving year on year top revenue awards. Prior to joining Paragon, Mr. Lea’s career spanned more than 20 years of corporate and consulting experience, from leading a large global manufacturing IT organization to independent consulting across various industry domains and then consulting in Life Sciences leading and managing strategic account relationships. Mr. Lea holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Southeast Missouri State University and Masters work at Washington University, St. Louis MO.

Geoffrey Lewis is Vice President, Life Sciences Corporate & Enterprise for Paragon. In this role, he is responsible for thought leadership, and developing and executing on strategies across technology, processes and organizational design to drive value creation, operational effectiveness and efficiency.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Lewis was senior Director, Business Strategist for Paragon’s Advisory Services where he led the consulting practice for the Life Sciences vertical. Mr. Lewis built and retained relationships with client executives, and acted as a key advisor to those executives, project sponsors and key decision makers. Along with strategy development, he provided life sciences domain, process, business improvement and related subject matter expertise. He also worked to expand and formalize Paragon’s strategic consulting capabilities, and to develop life sciences-specific market offerings.

Mr. Lewis’ career spans over 20 years of experience developing and operationalizing strategies, increasing revenues, and improving operational efficiencies for Fortune 500 organizations across diverse industries, with more than 10 years directly focused on the pharmaceutical industry. He has held various roles in business analysis and strategy consulting where he has contributed to business and profit growth by designing, launching, and implementing high-impact strategic plans, and by building services and delivery capability. Mr. Lewis holds a Graduate Certificate in Business Management from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, Sydney, Australia.

James O’Keefe leads the Research & Development (R&D) consulting practice for Paragon. Mr. O’Keefe is responsible for piloting the domain’s growth with capabilities that are centered on business consulting and process optimization. In this role, Mr. O’Keefe has focused on driving change and adoption of new business capabilities such as: Submissions Management and Archiving; IDMP; the transition to electronic management of Trial Master Files and Investigator Interactions; and optimizing Investigator Grants Management and Payments.

Formerly with a division of EMC Consulting, Mr. O’Keefe has over 15 years of business and IT consulting experience, with the past six years focused in the Clinical space of Life Sciences. His expertise includes enabling efficiencies in Clinical Site Monitoring, Protocol Optimization, and the implementation of electronic Trial Master Files and Clinical Investigator portals.

Mr. O’Keefe holds a BA in English Literature from Fordham University. He is an active member of the Drug Information Association, most recently sitting on the Document Management SIAC working group for Trial Master File Reference Model recommendations.

Doug Vargo directs the Information Management practice in providing organizations with business process and technology solutions that apply to the generation, management, use, compliance and disposition of enterprise content. The Information Management practice focuses on ensuring that organizations have effective, pervasive content management strategies, business processes and technology to ensure that the right content is available at the right place, for the right person, at the right time.

Since joining Paragon in 2007, Mr. Vargo has applied his extensive experience in the strategy and implementation of compliant information management solutions to help establish Paragon as a key partner for leading companies seeking to implement enterprise-wide information management programs and technologies. He was responsible for developing Paragon’s Information Governance and Compliance practices, which are focused on ensuring that organizations have the proper strategies for records management, electronic archiving and eDiscovery.

Mr. Vargo held various positions in the planning, design, development and deployment of Information Management solutions prior to his appointment at Paragon. As Director of Records Information Management for Rusco, Inc., he was responsible for the project management, execution and validation of Document Management Systems at several life sciences companies. Before joining Rusco, he worked as a Validation Consultant for First Consulting Group, Inc., where his area of specialization was in applying FDA compliance and validation requirements to pharmaceutical clients’ new and existing computer systems.

Mr. Vargo holds a BS in Environmental Science from Slippery Rock University, PA. He has achieved many standards and compliance certifications in the areas of systems validation, document management and electronic records management. Mr. Vargo has hosted several webinars and events on information governance related topics, and has presented at several industry and partner conferences. He was a recipient of Paragon’s President’s Club Gold Award in 2010, 2011 and 2012 for excellence in service and delivery to the client.

Michael Cloutier, Vice President and leader of Paragon’s Insurance Practice, is responsible for providing consulting and systems integration services to insurance firms that specialize in life, annuity, property and casualty, reinsurance and health. Mr. Cloutier has over 20 years of expertise in directing business transformation, customer relationship management and enterprise systems integration initiatives for clients in the financial services and insurance industries.

As leader of the Insurance Solutions Practice, Mr. Cloutier is responsible for system implementations and integration, account supervision and financial management. He also directs the development of industry straight-through processing offerings that integrate with enabling technology products. Key areas of focus for Mr. Cloutier’s practice include, underwriting, claims, customer experience and transforming back-office processing using enabling technologies such as content management and business process management.

Mr. Cloutier joined Paragon in 2003 where he spearheaded the delivery of a suite of straight-through-processing solutions for the Insurance practice. Prior to joining Paragon, Mr. Cloutier held a senior management position at Prudential for 16 years.

Mr. Cloutier received a Bachelor’s degree from Monmouth University, NJ. He actively participates and holds executive positions in various community and local organizations.

Murali Jayaraman

India Operations

Murali Jayaraman heads Paragon’s India Operations. In addition to providing strategic directions to the Indian Operations as the Whole-time Director, he is responsible for delivery of projects and Operations, which includes ensuring compliance to the local legal and regulatory requirements. He has successfully integrated the India Delivery Center with Paragon’s Global Delivery Model, and has led Paragon’s initiative in getting the India Center certified in Information Security Compliance, by a leading global Pharmaceutical company.

Mr. Jayaraman’s career spans more than 24 years in the Software Industry, with wide experience in diverse work cultures, leading teams in locations across the globe, in various leadership positions. He joined Paragon at its Cranford office in the year 2000 and managed projects for a leading Insurance and a Brokerage firm, before moving back to India in 2005, to head Paragon’s India Operations.

Prior to joining Paragon, Mr. Jayaraman had held various leadership positions in Deutsche Software and Tata Consultancy Services, in delivery and business development, and has strong domain knowledge in banking and insurance. He has managed end-to-end development and implementation of several global products/projects having multilingual user interface for Deutsche Bank, and a strategic application for the United Nations, and has built and maintained effective client relationships.

Mr. Jayaraman holds a Master’s degree in Computer Applications from Regional Engineering College, Trichy, India, and has done an Executive Program in Management from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, India.
