The 2013 ARMA Live! Conference & Expo took place from Saturday, October 26th to Monday, October 28th in Las Vegas, Nevada, with additional events and networking opportunities lasting until Friday, November 1st. This was the 58th annual conference and expo held by the Association of Records Managers and Administrators, and there is already buzz going about next year’s event in San Diego, California. This year’s event is still fresh in attendees’ minds, though, due to a number of important experiences, announcements and opportunities for knowledge that were presented throughout the conference schedule.

What is the ARMA International?

For those who don’t know, the Association of Records Managers and Administrators is an international, nonprofit, professional association that was founded in 1955 for the purpose of establishing best practices and standards for the industry; informing members about technology trends and how to take advantage of them; offering opportunities for education (now both in person and over the Web); and providing updates on regulatory and legislative activity relevant to its members. The organization also offers analyses of marketplace news, as well as videos and books to keep its international network of more than 27,000 members informed about information and records management. These members include consultants, corporate librarians, imaging specialists, information archivists, information governance professionals, information managers, educators, IT managers and legal professionals. Members hail from North American countries and more than 30 other nations, belonging to industries that range from government to petroleum to healthcare, legal and financial services.

What Made the 2013 ARMA Live! Special?

This three-day event that takes place every year is designed to spread the kind of knowledge and information that records management professionals need to be successful in their careers and to help their organizations reach many of their most important goals. As usual, experts were given platforms to share information and make announcements at this year’s event. However, there were a few highlights that stood out in particular. Aside from product launches and seminars, a few key announcements were made, such as Paragon Solutions’ announcement of new partnerships with Gimmal and Iron Mountain.

Paragon Solutions is a well-known and respected advisory consulting and systems integration firm that specializes in information management. Partnering with Gimmal should prove to be quite a strategic advantage for the firm and its clients, as Gimmal is recognized as a world-leader in information governance and enterprise information management solutions utilizing the powerful Microsoft SharePoint platform.

Partnering with Iron Mountain is expected to be equally important, as Iron Mountain is known as one of the most critically acclaimed information management and storage solution providers for companies in the communications, insurance, financial services and life sciences industries throughout the world. Through these strategic partnerships, Paragon will be more powerfully prepared to offer its mutual customers of Gimmal and Iron Mountain, as well as new clients in the future, with a more comprehensive set of services.

More Highlights From ARMA Live! 2013

Throughout the weekend and following week, there was an abundant selection of seminars, industry roundtables, education sessions, featured sessions, workshops, luncheons, receptions, bookstore and vendor hours, silent auctions, poster sessions, and numerous networking and socializing opportunities including cocktail hours, parties, pub crawls and much more. Some of the most critical presentations took place during the general sessions, including Frank W. Abagnale headlining the general open sessions with his expertise as a world-leading authority on embezzlement, document security and forgery. There was also a highly informative Technology in the Spotlight session moderated by Jason Velasco of eDJ Group with panel members including Phyllis Elin of Recall, Jack A. Faer of Iron Mountain, Reed E. Irvin of Viewpointe, and Bassam Zarkout of RSD. For those who stayed until Wednesday, there was also an exciting opportunity to hear motivational speaker Allison Massari speak. It was one of the most engaging ARMA Live! Conference and Expos to date, so it’s going to be hard for event organizers to top next year.
